I Shell-ter

“Shell-ter” explores the intertwined themes of home and belonging through the evocative symbol of the shell. Through the material and conceptual dimensions of ceramic art, the works weave a dialogue between Jewish and Taiwanese cultural histories: narratives shaped by migration, adaptation, and identity in shifting environments. The shell serves as a metaphorical and visual vessel: a fragile yet protective structure, a mobile shelter, and a symbol of both vulnerability and resilience. In this context, the shell captures the human instinct to seek refuge, belonging, and connection in the face of uncertainty.

Rooted in Uriel Caspi’s nomadic experience navigating multiple geographies and cultures, the exhibition becomes both personal and collective. It reflects how individuals and communities carry their sense of home across borders, reshaping it in response to conflict and transformation. Against the rising global instability and regional conflicts, the need for safety and resilience feels increasingly urgent. “Shell-ter” resonates as an artistic exploration and a call to reflect on how people inhabit, protect, and redefine the spaces they call home.
